i want people to know i’m struggling but i don’t want people to know i’m struggling do you see my problem
This is a touchy subject, my friend, but since you asked, I will give my honest opinion. I do not believe in veganism/vegetarianism during recovery from a restrictive eating disorder, nor do I think anyone can fully recover while being a vegan or a vegetarian. I understand if someone leans more towards meatless or more animal-friendly options, but completely eliminating any foods from their diet, whether it’s meat or cheese, is giving the ED a loophole to feed itself upon.
In my opinion, all food options must be kept open in recovery. I’m totally fine with vegetarianism, and maybe even veganism, once a person is in a stable state of remission. But until then, I think that one must reacquaint themselves with as many foods as possible, without a diet label to hinder them from challenging foods they aren’t yet comfortable with. This helps to remove the aura of fear surrounding their, well, “fear foods”. I’m sorry that you don’t want to consume animal products ever again - and it’s not my place to judge your recovery - but I strongly encourage avoiding veganism or vegetarianism until you are free of your eating disorder.
Gaining new friendships and mending and strengthening some old ones is probably one of the best feelings.
